We decided to use the Dr. Seuss book Oh, the Places You'll Go as the main theme throughout the shower. Guests were asked to write a message for the couple on little diapers in the hopes that their words of inspiration would put a smile on the couple's face during middle of the night diaper changes.
Decorating the event were personalized pennants, book quotes, beloved children's books, and a pair of Thing 1 and Thing 2 candlesticks. They were made using unfinished wooden candlesticks, red spray paint, and blue tissue paper. I was inspired to make these after viewing the Dr. Seuss party featured here.
The menu consisted of book inspired appetizers including green deviled eggs and melt-in-your-mouth ham sandwiches. My favorite, however, is the chips bowl inspired by The Cat in the Hat.
Menu:
Puddle-Duck punch
One Fish Two Fish Cupcakes
Green deviled eggs & ham sandwiches (Green Eggs & Ham)
Chips and dips (The Cat in the Hat)
Little mouse's cheese ball (Goodnight Moon)
Vegetable Platter (Peter Rabbit)
Fruit Tray (The Very Hungry Caterpillar)
So many of these books were childhood favorites that I'm now getting to read to my own boys. I think that was part of the fun of this shower theme, the opportunity to revisit our youth through books.
